Home Office can mean potentially some nice tax deductions, check in with me and we can discuss your situation and perhaps save you a few grand every year and protect it from CRA should they question yet, plus a Hst Rebate that many miss
Great article on Home Office Decorating and Setup sourced from Dave Wilson a great local realtor / broker in the Brock Shores area. I seen this article on his Linked In feeds and it inspired me to work on this blog. It reminded me of the importance of having this deduction if possible and what qualifies.

If you’re fortunate enough to have Labor Day off from work, the most important thing on your to-do list today is to actually take the day off. Studies have shown that people send only 40 percent less emailon holiday Mondays compared with regular Mondays. (Thank you, smartphones and tablets.) Not only that, but taking time to let your brain rest and recover “literally makes us more creative, better at problem-solving, better at coming up with creative ideas.” |
|
So, great, we’re all out of work mode and ready to enjoy the day. But what to do? Here are a few suggestions on how best to spend your day off. |
|
Yes, yes, you’re busy, I’m busy, we’re busy-ing ourselves to exhaustion. But if you have today off, take a conscious stand against all this busyness. Being busy — if we even are busy — is rarely the status indicator we’ve come to believe it is. Nonetheless, the impact is real, and instances of burnout, anxiety disorders and stress-related diseases are on the rise. Read more » |

What does holding onto grudges really get us, aside from amusing anecdotes at parties? And what could we gain from giving them up? As it turns out, quite a lot: A 2006 study suggested that “skills-based forgiveness training may prove effective in reducing anger as a coping style, reducing perceived stress and physical health symptoms, and thereby may help reduce” the stress we put on our immune and cardiovascular systems. So, you know, maybe it’s worth it. Read more » |
Vacation Devotion
Labor
“We beseech you, brethren, that ye increase more and more; And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; that ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing.” (1 Thessalonians 4:10-12)
On Labor Day, we traditionally take time to recognize the great workforce here in America. From factories to restaurants, from typing pools to machine shops, from schoolrooms to gas stations, laborers help make the economy run, and on this day America honors its workforce.
The Bible likewise frequently commends those who work. For example: “Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth” (Ephesians 4:28).
Several of the words in our text are significant. The verbs “increase . . . study . . . be . . . do . . . work . . . walk . . . lack” are all in the tense implying a habit, or lifestyle. We are thus commended to have a mindset of work, not laziness or expecting others to do for us what we can do for ourselves.
The word “honestly” elsewhere is translated “decently” or “properly” and is emphasized in the Greek. There is a proper way to walk.
Perhaps Paul was referring to his own example: “For ye remember, brethren, our labor and travail: for labouring night and day, because we would not be chargeable unto any of you” (1 Thessalonians 2:9).
Note that an admonition to continue in “brotherly love” (v. 9) is the context of our text. For one who refuses to work and becomes a burden to society exhibits a lack of brotherly love and is a reproach to the community of Christ.
Laborers are honored in Scripture, and so is labor. JDM
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.

Kids can’t stay off their phones, and Yondr is reaping the benefitsWhat was the world like before smartphones? Definitely don’t ask a teenager. Chances are they have no idea. A report from Pew Research Center shows that 95% of all teens currently have access to or own a smartphone, and 45% are online pretty much 24/7. Phone addiction has pushed many schools to enforce policies regulating usage during school hours. But, as we all know, it takes a little more than the iron fist of Miss Trunchbull to get kids to look up from their phones -- and recently, schools have decided to explore more drastic measures. This year, The Guardianreports, more than 1k schools nationwide will be using Yondr, a magnetized pouch system that locks students away from their phones while class is in sesh. Schoooools back... from... summerMusicians and standup comics have used Yondr to keep people present at their gigs since the San Francisco-based company launched in 2014. But, in recent years, more and more schools have used the pouches to lock out students during school hours. And, while reviews are mixed -- from students and teachers alike -- there’s proof that it works. Of course, kids aren’t going to give up easilySome schools using Yondr have seen a decrease in phone use and an increase in person to person connectivity. Yet, students, the rascals that they are, have also figured out ways to hack the pouch. Still, according to Yondr spokeswoman Kelly Taylor, “Demand has tripled this year.” |

I have been reading a few posts from various investment managers about how Disney has been ramping up for a distribution model for their movies on line and how that will improve their value. Why Families Will Ditch Netflix By 2020
Having too many streaming services just won't be practical anymore.
www.fatherly.com/play/why-families-will-ditch-netflix-by-2020
On Tuesday, the highly-anticipated streaming service Disney+ revealed a new streaming bundle consisting of Disney+, Hulu and ESPN. This will cost $12.99 a month, which is the exact same price as the standard HD two-screen plan for Netflix right now. Right there, families who are planning on getting Disney+ can do the math. With Disney+ you get the entire vault of Disney animated movies streaming, plus a smattering of Marvel movies, Star Wars movies, and yeah, that new Star Wars TV show — The Mandalorian — that starts streaming on November 12. (This show is being run by Jon Favreau by the way, you know the guy who directed the first Iron Man? Anyway, I digress. You get it. This streaming service is big.)

https://advisoranalyst.com/2019/08/12/does-sustainable-investing-constrain-a-portfolio.html/
Came across this article in my email box this morning
"Sustainable investing is often misunderstood. Many investors think a sustainable agenda limits a portfolio to a narrow piece of the market. In fact, plenty of stocks can help investors create social benefits while generating strong returns—if you know how to find them."
and I was reminded why I like them ESG and SRI in our client portfolio's .
ESG = Envirnomental , Social, Goverence
SRI = Socially Responsible Investments
https://www.riacanada.ca/responsible-investment/
What is Responsible Investment?
Responsible investment (RI) refers to the incorporation of environmental, social and governance factors (ESG) into the selection and management of investments.
RI has boomed in recent years as investors have recognized the opportunity for better risk-adjusted returns, while at the same time, contributing to important social and environmental issues.
Well, today we got an update on CRA timelines for adjustments, agent say's " We don't give out deadlines anymore as we are unable to respect them" .... So .... waiting for an adjustment to process is an unknown once again. It has been our experience, if you owe money, they will get right on it, if you are getting a refund, they have no idea.
Have a wonderful day!

Here is a link to a program that maybe of interest to seniors or those with a disabilty , with family incomes under 60,000 and assets under 20,000 ( excluding home valued under 225,000 )
This looks like a good option for many that need to get some of these items taken care of. Feel free to share this info with others that may benefit as well.
Thanks

Program Overview
The Ontario Renovates Program is offered as part of the Investment in Affordable Housing for Ontario (IAH 2014 Extension) Program funded by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH), and provides financial assistance to households in need to repair deficiencies in affordable ownership properties. Funding is provided in the form of a 10 year, interest-free forgivable loan based on the cost of approved home repairs up to $15,000, and subject to the availability of program funds. A mortgage will be registered against the owner’s property for the duration of the loan forgiveness period for approved funding exceeding $7,000. The Counties will discharge the mortgage at the end of the loan forgiveness period (i.e. 10 years) at the Counties’ expense. In the event of default under the terms of the Promissory Note Agreement, the applicant/owner(s) shall be solely responsible to discharge the mortgage on the property at his/her expense. To support independent living for seniors and persons with disabilities, funding for accessibility repairs approved to a maximum of $5,000 is in the form of a grant, and does not require repayment.

Mapping the Flow of the World’s Plastic Waste
The first plastic material, Bakelite, was invented in 1907. It made its way into everything you can imagine: telephones, chess pieces, Chanel jewelry, and electric guitars.
But it was in 1950 that our thirst for plastic truly began. In just 65 years, plastic production soared almost 200 times, resulting in about 6,300 million metric tons of waste today.
How does the world deal with this much debris? The truth is, a lot of plastic waste—both trash and recycled materials—is often shipped overseas to become someone else’s problem.

Ecclesiastics 11:1-6 KJV
“Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth. If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be. He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap. As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.“
Reviewing a January message after listening to the up coming winter storm reports, it’s -38C at my dads farm this morning, you know that is cold, and sounds like we could get a foot is snow here on the Brockville Shores starting this afternoon, now where was I, oh yes, Joy.
Great article on the remarkable life of the author of this song Joy to the World, written in 1719, a Christmas Carol based on Psalm 98.
Let’s be reminded to not loose our Joy, and if we have , find it. Og Mandino reminded us to live every day as if it was Christmas.
So in the spirit of Christmas, enjoy once again this beautiful message.
Psalm 98 King James Version (KJV)
98 O sing unto the Lord a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
2 The Lord hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
3 He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
5 Sing unto the Lord with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
6 With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the Lord, the King.
7 Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
8 Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
9 Before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
Joy to the world! The Lord is come:
let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare him room
and heaven and nature sing.
Joy to the earth! the Saviour reigns:
let men their songs employ
while fields and floods rocks hills and plains
repeat the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow
nor thorns infest the ground:
he comes to make his blessings flow
far as the curse is found.
and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousnes
and wonders of his love.

SeeTree plants $11.5m in funding to help farmers keep digital tabs on their orchardsSeeTree, a startup that collects data on trees using drones and AI to help farmers manage their orchards, raised an $11.5m Series A yesterday. Per TechCrunch, this brings the company’s total funding to $15m. It’s called “precision agriculture,” people! After decades of barking up the wrong tree trying to perfect precision agriculture, SeeTree has finally developed what it calls “the world’s first intelligence network for trees.” By using drone imagery, underground sensors, and data samplers on the ground for closer analysis, SeeTree offers “per-tree” data for crop growers to digitally monitor their orchards. Using the data, farmers can then replace their “underperformers,” AKA trees that suck at being trees. Step into my office, Tree...Don’t get your roots in a bunch, it’s not all about ruling greenery with an iron fist. Farmers can also map out harvest plans based on each tree’s development stage -- and then put those trees on performances improvement plans as needed. |

Ford plans to ride into the electric future in an F-150 that’s both fuel efficient and badassYesterday, Ford announcedthat it will create all-electric versions of its classic F-series of trucks, including the best-selling F-150. After announcing last year that it would stop selling all but 2 US car models, Ford’s announcement proves it also has big plans to restructure its truck biz, which alone is worth $70B. The F-150 is a big F-in’ dealThis isn’t just any truck: The F-150 just happens to be the best-selling vehicle in the US 4 decades running. But more importantly, the F-series accounts for more than ⅓ of Ford’s sales -- and an even higher percentage of its profits. But so far, production of electric trucks hasn’t accelerated as fast as the production of electric cars -- and it’s still unclear how quickly Truck Junkies will follow in the tire tracks of Prius owners. Will diehard F-150 fans go electric? Some of the most popular electric cars are sustainable (Prius) and even stylish (Teslas), but they don’t exactly prioritize the powertrain. But Ford says its electric line will deliver both fuel efficiency and power, claiming it will be able to tow 5k pounds and perform as well as diesel and gas trucks. Ford isn’t the only company working on an electric pickup: The startup Rivian has raised $450m to do the same and expects to start production by 2020. Tesla also claims to have an EV pickup in the works. |
