It was once said

Came across this article this morning in LinkedIn, I think it is worth a little study. What would be said? Good question. - TLR

Need career help? Start writing your own eulogy. When we imagine our own deaths, and even write drafts of the way we’d like to be remembered, we can examine our priorities and goals from a broader perspective. Executive coach Daniel Harkavy encouragesthe CEOs he works with to draft two eulogies: the one that would be read today, and another that encompasses all of their future achievements. Comparing the two can help you reevaluate how you are spending your time and the decisions you are making. • Here’s what people are saying.

”In that 2005 Stanford commencement address where Jobs talked about the importance of realizing you are going to die, he also stated that, upon reflecting on his success, he realized “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward.”

Yet with the eulogy technique, now maybe you don’t have to wait until the end of your life to connect the dots. By changing your point of view and shifting your perspective from your present to your future, you’ll be able to see where you want to end up, and then know what steps you’ll next to take–what dots you’ll need to connect–to get there.”

They delivered on their theme of Light Up Christmas.

The 2018 edition of the Brockville Rotary Santa Claus Parade took place on Saturday. The light rain that persisted through the late afternoon and evening did not seem to dampen the enthusiasm as thousands of people lined the parade route to enjoy the annual holiday season event.

Santa’s float was preceded by 80 entries that made their way from North Augusta Road to King Street and through downtown beginning at about 5 p.m.

Shelley McCaffrey, chair of the parade committee, said the Rotary clubs were “thrilled” by the turnout.

Seventy-seven entries had registered prior to the parade, marking a slight increase from the 2017 event.

Judges Cameron Wales, Jenna Wren and Kelly Cole checked out the participants from their reviewing stand at city hall. ADS&A General Contractor took home the prize for top overall entry. Bernie’s Big Slice was second, followed by the Aquarium at Tall Ships Landing in third. Brockville Operatic Society was named the most humorous entry, and the best walker honour went to Dentistry @ Brockville. Dutchie was selected as the best clown at this year’s parade in Brockville. Garde Nativite de Cornwall was named best band.

Honourable mentions went to Alex White, Chartwell Rosedale Retirement Residence, 1st Brockville Scout Group, Thrill Dancers and Brockville Tabernacle.

In acknowledging that there was a delay in part of the parade, McCaffrey commented that the gap was unintentional and that sometimes things happen at a live event despite efforts to make it as smooth as possible.

“For those who stayed to watch, it was so worth it to see the amazing display of lights and smiling faces of everyone who took part,” she said.

“I’ve always loved the parades in Brockville,” added McCaffrey, who believes spectators get the same feeling of enjoyment that she has experienced. “It’s always fun.”

Parade organizers changed the first portion of the route for 2018. Instead of heading up Pearl Street from North Augusta Road and arriving on King Street by way of Garden Street, this year’s procession went all the way down North Augusta and then took King Street through downtown.

It was felt that the route adjustment would improve visibility and safety by avoiding sharp, narrow turns and the hill down to King, McCaffrey said. Organizers made every effort to get out the word about the change before Saturday, she added.

The local Christmas parade season wraps up this coming weekend. Santa will be in Merrickville on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. followed by parades in Athens at 7 p.m. and in Mallorytown on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.
