There has been a small movement to designate our countries flag day a national holiday, perhaps as we are frozen out from our neighbors commerce we embrace that vision that our flag's father had, a day that all across Canada we join together , much like the United States of America do with their flag, and we gather, reflect, celebrate, and we sing O Canada! Our home and native land! True patriot love in all of us command. Car ton bras sait porter l'épée,. Il sait porter la croix!
A reminder, Canada needs to be united, like these three maple leaves, take heart, spring is coming soon, we are in winter, and not just a frozen time in history, a political winter, spring follows winter, I think there will be a good future for our country. I see a revival in patriotic feelings for our country. Look up our vibrant official symbols. In our coat of arms, you will see the 3 red maple leaves, remember the cycle, to get to the red, there will be spring, the sap will run, it will be pulled up from the earth to nourish the buds, the leaves will develop and unfurl, it will take time, it will be tender to start and over time we will have full leaves, many will be a deep green, giving life converting the suns rays into growth, capturing the energy and the value that is all about us. In the meantime, some will praise the blue, as they shoot, they score, remember the seasons, spring is coming, it's just around the corner of time, the sap will be running soon. Canada's Flag Day quickly approaches, it is Saturday February 15th, the 60th Anniversary of our Canadian Flag. I will celebrating that uniting symbol that day in my community at Halls Apple Market, please join me along with our local dignitaries for remarks at 1pm. Throughout the day there will be opportunities to meet and listen in on some presentations about our flags history, the birth of our flag, from the Canadian Flag Education Centre's champions. The event is from 10 am to 4 pm and will be in the Cider Room, tasting of our Sparkling KiKi Maple Sap Beverages, Halls Hard Cider , and their sweet warmed cider. Enjoy a slice of the celebratory cake made by Halls Bakery on site. This year Flag day is the day after Valentines (truth be told it is always after Valentines) and it is on a Saturday this year, many of us get to have Saturday off, maybe not Friday, so treat your love to an extended adventure and journey to Brockville, visit The Birth Place of Our Canadian Flag, dine on the South Coast of Canada, walk the John Ross Matheson Way, visit the tallest flag in the area, read the inscriptions on the flag base, many do not realize that it is a monument. Take a picture while your there, look up, the 125 pound flag is 35 feet by 70 feet and is flying proudly on a 160 foot pole. It is a massive landmark, you will see it driving down the 401, day or night. I can see it once I get to the ridge of my road heading into Brockville. 10 years ago we celebrated the 50th Anniversary at the Flag Pole, it was a cold day, this year on the 60th we will inside. If you can not make it, start a celebration in your community, big or small, I would be happy to hear about your efforts.
