The 26th Annual Church & Charity Law Seminar™ is designed to assist churches and charities in understanding developing trends in the law in order to reduce unnecessary exposure to legal liability. Although the topics are directed at churches and charities, many aspects of the presentations will also be of interest to not-for-profit organizations.
The firm will be assisted by guest speaker Tony Manconi, Director General of the Charities Directorate of the Canada Revenue Agency.

This seminar is eligible for 5 hours Law Society of Ontario CPD and CPA Professional Development requirements.

    Dear Registrant,

     

    Thank you for your registration to the 26thAnnual Church & Charity Law Seminar being held on Thursday, November 7, 2019. Below you will see Important Information regarding your registration.

     

    Important Information

     

    1. The handout packagefor the event is posted at the following link: http://www.carters.ca/pub/seminar/chrchlaw/2019/Handout2019.pdf. Feel free to download the handouts (approximately 72 pages) to your laptop or mobile device, or print them for your reference. 
      Please note that printed handouts will be provided only to those who have pre-paid for them in advance. 

     

    1. The agenda for the daywill be available at the registration table on Thursday, November 7, 2019 when you pick up your name tag. We encourage you to come for the entire day in order to get as much information as possible.

    1. We encourage you to plan to arrive by 8:00 a.m. if possible, as we are expecting approximately 900 people in attendance. 

      We would like to take this opportunity to invite you to enjoy complimentary coffee, tea and muffins from 7:30 to 8:30 am, prior to the start of the seminar at 8:30 amsharp. 

      Please come early to get a good seat.  Name tags will be available at the Welcome Centre upon your arrival, just inside the main doors.  In addition, if you have purchased a copy of the handout material, it will be available at the Welcome Centre. 

     

    1. Traffic - Please note that Mississauga Road changes to Queen Street if you choose to travel through Streetsville and then changes back to Mississauga Road just before Eglinton Avenue.  This may be a heavy route during rush hour traffic. There may be some construction on Mississauga Road north of Barbertown Road which could affect your travel time.

     

    1. Parking - Please use the PORTICO parking lot for parking.  We have found in past years that latecomers may find parking a challenge. 

      We have arranged with the City of Mississauga to allow temporary parking near PORTICO including Barbertown Road, Amanda Place and Melody Place.  If you arrive late and cannot find parking in the PORTICO parking lot, you may park on these streets on November 7, 2019 between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm(except where there are no parking signs). 

     

    1. Lunch - If you have purchased a lunch, there will be a yellow lunch sticker on your name tag.  For your records, retrieve the receipt for your registration that is tucked inside your name tag.  Our lunch buffet will include wraps, sandwiches, salads, a light dessert, and a variety of drinks. 

     

    • For those who have noted special dietary needs on their registration (vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free), arrangements have been made with the caterer to set aside these meals in the kitchen. Your name tag will have an indication of the dietary requirement to make sure you get the necessary meal. 
    • There are 3 entrances to the lunchroom - greeters will direct you
    • There are 7 buffet tables with drinks at the end of each table
    • Exit at the back of the lunchroom

     

    1. Lunch seating – chairs and some tables are located in the hallways and corridors, as well as a number of overflow rooms on the first floor. Greeters will direct you.

     

    1. Local Restaurants - If you are planning to go to a local restaurant for lunch, please click hereto help you to find a lunch location close to the venue. We have scheduled 50 minutes for lunch, so please plan accordingly.

     

    1. Resources - In addition to the handout package, the following resources are available at the following links on our website:

     

     

    1. Two police officers will be on duty at 3:30 pm to direct traffic and facilitate departure.

     

    1. The seminar is eligible for 5 hours Law Society of Ontario CPD substantive credits through the LSO lawyer portals. In addition, accountants are eligible for 5 hours for CPA Professional Development requirements for which a letter is available when you pick up your nametag. Please see one of our staff to receive a copy of this letter.

     

    1. If you have registered and paid on behalf of another attendee, they will receive a receipt for their registration in their name tag.  Please pass along the information in this email to them.  If you have any concerns in this regard, please do not hesitate to contact me or our Seminar Hotline at 1-877-942-0001 ext 230
